Embracing the Mercy of God

Lamentations 3:22-23, The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

The mercy of God is new every morning; now, that is praiseworthy, “Embracing the mercy of God”!

Thank God for mercy, and that he is faithful even when we’re not. He is immutable. He never changes, and His steadfast love never ceases, and that deserves our praise.

In this life, I’ve faced many trials and tribulations, and while in some cases persecution accompanied them, there were moments when I felt overwhelmed and tempted to give up. Still, God in his faithfulness kept me from fainting and losing my mind.

There are some days, as I’m dealing with challenging circumstances and situations, that I often make this statement to myself or to the Lord, I feel like I’m about to run out of mercy today for this person or this situation, so I need to hurry up and go to bed to wake up to some new mercy. Lol, it was years ago that I heard a man make that statement to his wife as they were facing a difficult situation. I thought it was both suitable and funny —I’ve adopted it!

Now, for those who know, you know, the mercy of our God never runs out for us, it endures forever!! I’m glad about it and rejoice over it. He is not like us, and we should be in the process of becoming more like him daily.

Mercy is an attribute of God’s character; it flows out of his loving nature. God is love, and it is because of his love that he is merciful toward us. It’s because of his mercy that we are not consumed or destroyed. ( Lamentation 3:22-23)

We must understand that our Father God, who at the same time is The Lord God Almighty, The only true and living God, and is filled with endless mercies and is to be feared in a reverent, respectful, and honorable way. It is He who has the power to punish us for the sins we commit against Him,  or sins we omit, meaning the things He commanded us to do but we failed to do them. I’ve experienced and witnessed God’s mercy triumph in my life and the lives of others. He never gives up on us, but gives us what we don’t deserve and could never earn- and that is, His Beloved Son Jesus!

As  I continue to grow in my understanding of God’s mercy, my reverence for him deepens, along with my love for him. It’s a humbling realization to know that we are hopeless and helpless without him.

I pray that as you continue reading on, you will be blessed and liberated from a performance mentality that strives to earn God’s love and acceptance. Just receive by faith his kindness and unfailing love for you. God wants us free from the fear of punishment!! Today, begin trusting in God’s love for you!!

Oxford Language

Mercy: Compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

Bible Language

Mercy is God’s compassionate love that forgives, restores, and relieves the misery of sinners.

Key Scripture: “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” (Psalms 103:8)

Here is some Biblical Foundation of God’s Mercy:

a. Old Testament Examples

• Moses & Israel: After Israel’s idolatry with the golden calf, God revealed Himself as merciful (Exodus 34:6–7).

• David: After sinning with Bathsheba, David cried out for mercy (Psalm 51:1).

• Prophets: Lamentations 3:22 – “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His Compassions fail not.”

b. New Testament Fulfillment

• Jesus Christ: Mercy was embodied in Christ—healing the sick, forgiving sinners, and showing compassion to the broken (Matthew 9:13).

• The Cross: The ultimate act of mercy—God not giving us the punishment we deserved but giving His Son instead (Titus 3:5).

Key Takeaway: The mercy of God is not just a doctrine to study, but a reality to live by. We are recipients of His daily compassion, and in turn, we are called to be vessels of mercy in a world desperate for love.
